Macedon Kindergarten bathroom facilities upgrades

In 2026, bathroom facilities at Macedon Kindergarten will be upgraded.

The proposed design will provide the children with more privacy and access to the toilets from the outside play area, which will encourage more outdoor learning.

The design complies with contemporary design guidelines for the provision of kindergarten to three-year-old children as part of the Early Years reforms.

The project will require temporary relocation to Swinburne Avenue Children's Centre in Gisborne in Term 1 2026.

This project is funded by the Victorian Government through the Victorian School Building Authority's Building Blocks Improvement Grant for Early Learning Facilities Upgrades.

Why does the Kindergarten need to be relocated?

Works are anticipated to take between 10 - 12 weeks and require demolition of all toilet facilities including all access to mains water. The kindergarten will not be safe or suitable for tenancy during that period. 

Why can't the works be completed more quickly or outside of term?

The project is scheduled to start during the summer school holidays 2025/26.

Initial scope indicates works will take approximately 10 weeks which impacts the start of Term 1.

If works are completed ahead of schedule the kindergarten program will be moved back to Macedon Kindergarten immediately. 

How long will the kindergarten be relocated?

Macedon Kindergarten program will operate from Swinburne Avenue Children's Centre (Gisborne) for Term 1 2026.

Why was Swinburne Avenue Children's Centre chosen as relocation?

Relocation options investigated included Macedon Primary School, Mount Macedon Primary School, Jubilee Hall, Macedon Mount Macedon Community Hall, CWA Hall Mount Macedon, and Macedon Community Centre.

Unfortunately, these options were found to be not viable due to lack of availability, safety concerns (traffic, train tracks, lack of fencing), and inappropriate facilities for children (e.g. shared bathrooms).

As a result, shortlisted options were limited to:

  • Swinburne Avenue Children’s Centre in Gisborne; or
  • Lancefield Children’s Centre in Lancefield.

These locations allowed for the same timetable and teaching staff across the year, and are child-friendly spaces approved as existing licensed kindergartens.

The Early Years team conducted a consultation with families enrolled at Macedon through a short survey.100% of families selected Swinburne Avenue Children's Centre.

 

What are the other options for families who don't want the disruption?

If you have registered for Macedon Kindergarten, you can change your preference without impacting your registration date.

Macedon educators will be relocating along with your child. The educators for your child’s group will remain the same.

Will my days and groups be the same?

Yes, the educators and program delivery will remain the same in another location.
