Locating drains on your property

When carrying out works on your property, it is important to make sure you know where the sewer, water pipes and stormwater drains are located on your property. Further, the location of underground electrical and gas infrastructure is important.

Before you start any works, you must:

  1. Find out where any pipes and drains are located by calling 1100 or visiting Dial Before You Dig.
  2. Check your Title Certificate of plan of subdivision to see if there are any easements on your property. If your proposed works are on or in close proximity to an easement, you will likely need approval before you can commence works. For more information, visit Building over easements.
  3. Contact our Building Unit on (03) 5422 0333 or visit Do I need a permit, approval or consent to check if you need to apply for a building permit or obtain approval before you begin any works.
