Public waste and recycling bins

Our public place bins are there to make it easy for everyone to dispose of on-the-go waste like coffee cups, snack wrappers and picnic leftovers.

Please do not place bulky household items or domestic waste in these bins.

When household rubbish or bulky items are placed in these bins, they quickly overflow and lead to litter in our parks and streets.

Before placing larger items in a public bin, please consider:

Choosing the right disposal option keeps our public bins available for everyone and helps protect our beautiful open spaces.

Bin servicing and cleaning

Council has contracted Excalibur Services to empty and clean street and park litter bins.

The service schedule varies by location, based on how much waste is generated.

Main street bins in larger townships are emptied daily.

All bins are cleaned and disinfected regularly throughout the year.

During events or in response to community needs, bin servicing frequency can be increased.

If a bin is full, dirty, or smelly, we can arrange for it to be serviced promptly.

Reporting a bin issue

To report a full, damaged, or misused bin, call our customer service team on (03) 5422 0333 or report an issue online

Public recycling bins

In addition to litter bins, we provide public recycling (yellow) bins and glass-only (purple) bins in selected locations. These bins support our commitment to sustainability by allowing residents and visitors to separate recyclable materials from general waste.

Important: recycling bins must be used correctly to avoid contamination.

Please only place accepted recyclable materials (such as, cans, plastic bottles, paper, and cardboard) in these yellow bins only glass bottles in these purple bins.

Contamination in public recycling bins may result in the contents being sent to landfill. Learn more about what belongs in recycling bins here and glass-only bins here.

Please recycle right and keep the Macedon Ranges beautiful.
