Extreme Fire Danger Day and Total Fire Ban - Tuesday 17 February 2026

Tuesday 17 February 2026 has been declared an Extreme Fire Danger Day and Total Fire Ban Day by the Country Fire Authority for the Central district, which includes the Macedon Ranges. There will be changes to certain Council services including earlier bin collections, the closure of Romsey Resource Recovery Facility and Hanging Rock's Summit Walk, and the relocation of an immunisation session.

The Fire Danger Period for Macedon Ranges Shire is in force until further notice. During this time, no fire may be lit in the open air without a permit.

Youth Climate Group

In partnership with VicHealth, Council launched the Youth Climate Group in March of 2025.

The Youth Climate Group is open to young people aged 12 - 25 who live, work, or study in the Macedon Ranges who are interested in taking climate action and making a positive impact in their community through environmental focussed initiatives! The group meet fortnightly, from the Woodend Community Centre.

Past events and projects

On 4 October 2025, the Youth Climate Group led their first project, Youth-Led Planting Day.

Over 50 community members joined the group in a planting day to plant 380 of 7 different native species along the 5 Mile Creek Reserve in Woodend. This project is aimed to help the revegetation of the endangered Black Gum species.
