In partnership with VicHealth, Council launched the Youth Climate Group in March of 2025 with a launch event alongside CERES.

The event had 17 young people in attendance from secondary schools across the shire. It provided a platform for like-minded students to collaborate amongst themselves, and with the guidance of experienced facilitators. The purpose of the day was to give young people an opportunity to participate in discussions concerning climate change within the shire, while also offering them a shared space to develop a project plan for the next steps.

The Youth Climate Group now consists of 7 enthusiastic young people who meet fortnightly during the school Term at the Woodend Community Centre.

The group are currently planning for their first project a Community Planting Day along the 5 Mile Creek Reserve, Woodend. The group chose 5 Mile Creek as their first project as it is the home to the endangered and rare Black Gum species—they aim to help revegetation with a restoration project to enhance and protect its habitat.
