Open Space Strategy

Current strategy

The Macedon Ranges Open Space Strategy 2013(PDF, 2MB) has provided direction to Council for the planning and provision of open space within the shire in an ongoing manner over the next ten or more years.

Development of a new Open Space Strategy is underway

Council has developed a new draft Open Space Strategy to provide strategic direction for the planning, management and delivery of public open space for the next 10 years.

The strategy considers the significant landscapes that surround our towns and villages, and the diverse social, economic and environmental values of our 900 hectares of public parks, waterways, recreation reserves and bushland. It seeks to balance the needs of our growing communities and changing recreation trends with the need to protect the natural beauty of the shire.

Feedback was invited on the draft in 2025. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. All submissions will be reviewed before we make any necessary changes to the strategy. It will then be presented to Council for adoption at a future meeting.
