Horse riding
Council currently supports a range of equestrian clubs/groups in Bullengarook, Gisborne, Macedon, Kyneton, Woodend, Lancefield and Riddells Creek.
There's also a variety of trail riding and other equine experiences on offer.
Macedon Ranges Community Equestrian Facilities Plan
We are preparing a Community Equestrian Facilities Plan - co-funded with the Victorian Government - to guide the future direction of these facilities and inviting feedback to help inform the development of this important plan.
Council has appointed experienced recreation consultants @Leisure to undertake the development of this plan and the first stage of community consultation was conducted in 2023. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
There will be further opportunities to have your say on the draft Community Equestrian Facilities Plan once it has been developed, which is anticipated to be later this year.
What is the purpose of the plan?
Despite the number of equestrian clubs and facilities throughout the shire, there is limited direction to support existing community-based equestrian clubs and groups such as pony clubs, adult riding clubs etc.
The purpose of the Community Equestrian Facilities Plan is to:
- Review and audit existing facilities and identify future improvement needs
- Provide clarity in regards to facility maintenance and development responsibilities, and identify key risk management issues and development plan to address these issues
- Investigate public access and inclusion arrangements for members and non-members
- Investigate opportunities to grow and promote participation, and the development of an equestrian specific participation plan that will encourage a greater diversity in participation numbers
- Consider opportunities to establish safe trail riding locations in collaboration with other agencies
- Work with peak equestrian bodies to facilitate the shire’s equestrian club planning and sustainability.
