Types of student placements

Work Experience

A short term placement of secondary school students (generally year 10) with a ‘host’ employer, to provide insights into the industry and workplace in which they are located.

Students are placed with employers primarily to observe and learn, not to undertake activities which require extensive training or experience.

Structured Workplace Learning

Structured Workplace Learning involves secondary school students (generally year 10-12) undertaking structured on the job training during which they are expected to master a designated set of skills and competencies related to accredited courses.

These placements vary in length and timeframe, which is negotiated between the supervisor and the school.

Vocational Placements

Students are required to complete a work placement as part of their current studies and are generally enrolled at a University or Tafe.

Requirements of the course vary, and students may participate for a short intense period, or over a longer period.

These placements may or may not be paid.
