Autumn visitors

Council is encouraging residents and visitors to avoid visiting the Mount Macedon area during autumn.

Council has cancelled all free shuttle buses and closed many facilities, including the visitor information booth.

Most local venues, gardens and businesses will also be limiting services or closed due to federal government requirements.

The following facilities have been closed and there have been service changes put in place in order to minimise large public gatherings, dispense with non-essential meetings and events, and encourage social distancing.

Closures include:

  • Kyneton Toyota Sports & Aquatic Centre

  • Gisborne Aquatic Centre

  • Gisborne Fitness Centre

  • All leisure centres including Buffalo Sports Stadium, Macedon Community Centre, Romsey Recreation Centre, Riddells Creek Leisure Centre, The Stadium

  • Libraries in Kyneton, Gisborne, Woodend and Romsey

  • Council service desks at Romsey Community Hub and Woodend Community Centre

  • Gisborne Administration Centre

  • Kyneton Administration Centre

  • Hanging Rock

  • Kyneton Museum

  • All council-run kindergartens including Lady Brooks Kindergarten, Lancefield Kindergarten, Macedon Kindergarten, Manna Gum Family and Children's Centre, Riddells Creek Kindergarten, Romsey Kindergarten, Swinburne Ave Children's Centre, Woodend Kindergarten.

  • Sports pavillions

  • Visitor Information Centres

  •  All Council-owned community halls.

Event cancellations

Council events which have been cancelled or postponed for the next month include:

  • All arts and culture events at Kyneton Town Hall and other venues have been cancelled, postponed or rescheduled.
  • Harmony Day in Woodend
  • Citizenship Ceremony on 7 April.

Immunisation sessions

Council’s childhood immunisation sessions are still running and the sessions times have been extended with extra precautions in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

It is important that families continue with their child’s immunisation schedule, however if you or your child are unwell (have a fever, cough and shortness of breath) or have travelled overseas in the last 14 days we kindly ask that you do not attend a session.


All libraries in the shire are closed until further notice. The eLibrary is still available to you 24/7 and has wonderful resources.

Maternal and Child Health service changes

We will continue to provide MCH services to families, however alternative methods such as telephone calls may be used instead of face-to-face consultations. Group sessions will cease until further notice.

Breastfeeding support via phone consultations is available for mothers experiencing initial difficulties in the early weeks and throughout their breastfeeding experience is offered by experienced lactation consultants.

Pools, fitness centres and stadiums 

These facilities are closed until further notice. All members will be contacted directly and memberships will be suspended until the facilities re-open.

Transfer stations and tip shop

The Kyneton Tip Shop is also closed until further notice.

Transfer stations currently remain open, however please note cash will not be accepted by the attendants until further notice to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Payment by EFTPOS only.
