Youth Mental Health

Our commitment

Council's Youth Mental Health Position Statement(PDF, 444KB) outlines Council's commitment to strive for good youth mental health, which will enhance the quality of life for all young people in the Macedon Ranges.

The position statement was drafted with input and feedback from the Macedon Ranges Community and endorsed by Council in June 2019. The development of a Youth Mental health Position Statement was a year one action in Council's "Elevate" Youth Strategy 2018-2028

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Learn how to help young people experiencing mental health problems by participating in one of Council’s award-winning Youth Mental Health First Aid courses this year.

The 14-hour program teaches participants first aid skills to give initial help to young people who are in a mental health crisis situation or in the early stages of a mental illness.

The course covers topics such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, alcohol abuse and other drug issues and eating disorders.

This course is $37.50 to all residents within the Macedon Ranges Shire. For all other individuals, the cost is $190.00 per person.

Youth Mental health First Aid training update - September 2020

Due to the ongoing restrictions relating to the managment of the Covid-19 pandemic, Council will not be scheduling any face to face delivery of YMHFA programs until further notice.

Unfortunately the YMHFA program has not yet been adapted for online delivery. It is anticipated that this will be available closer to the end of the year. This includes the YMHFA Refresher course as well.

We will provide further updates on this page as they come to hand. If you have any further question please contact Loren Polzot, Live4Life Coordinator at or (03) 5244 0275.

Sessions for teachers and youth service providers

There are separate Youth Mental Health First Aid courses available that are specifically for teachers and youth service providers within the Macedon Ranges.
