Honour Avenue Management Plan

Autumn in the Macedon Ranges is one of the most beautiful times of the year – and one of the busiest. Visitors travel from across Victoria to see the autumn colour, enjoy local food and wine, and explore our natural environment. Honour Avenue in Macedon is especially popular, attracting thousands of visitors during April and May.

In 2026, Council implemented the Honour Avenue Management Plan to help manage the impact of visitors in Macedon and Mount Macedon. Thanks to the cooperation of the community, local businesses and visitors, the measures proved effective in easing traffic and parking pressures, improving safety, and helping everyone experience the area in a more organised and respectful way.

The 2026 management measures included temporary signage and no stopping zones, road closures along Honour Avenue on peak visitation days, additional traffic management support for residents, extra toilets and waste facilities, multilingual resident signage, and increased support from government agencies, including the Department of Transport and Planning and Victoria Police. Temporary traffic and speed management measures were also implemented throughout the area to improve safety and traffic flow during the autumn season.

A community group, together with the open gardens, also continued two successful initiatives in 2026 – a shuttle bus service to the open gardens and a visitor car park at the Church of Resurrection in Macedon. Both initiatives were well received, with positive feedback from visitors who found it easier to explore the area.

Council will now begin the debrief and review process and start planning for 2027. Further updates will be provided when available. Council thanks the Macedon and Mount Macedon community for their patience, cooperation and support throughout this period.
