Neighbourhood Safer Places

A Neighbourhood Safer Place—Place of Last Resort is somewhere you can go when all of your other bushfire survival plans have failed.

These places do not guarantee your safety and no services are provided for people or pets. You also put yourself at great risk travelling to one during a bushfire.

In the Macedon Ranges Shire, Neighbourhood Safer Places are located at:

  • Buffalo Stadium, Forest Street, Woodend
  • Lancefield Mechanics Hall, High Street, Lancefield
  • Riddells Creek Leisure Centre, Sutherlands Road, Riddells Creek
  • Macedon Community Centre, Tony Clarke Reserve, Waterfalls Road, Macedon.

Neighbourhood Safer Places are signposted with distinctive, recognisable signs. Become familiar with them before an emergency.

Building access

Each Neighbourhood Safer Place building in the shire has an emergency access code. If you need to access the building in an emergency, call the phone number next to the keypad at the building entrance—this phone number is a Council emergency contact. All emergency service agencies in the shire also have the code to access these buildings.

Council does not send staff to open the centres in an emergency. You must call the number provided to be given the code and gain access.

For more information, contact Council's Manager of Community Safety on (03) 5421 9657.
