Have your say on Council’s budget 2026-27

Last updated on 06 November 2025

Council is inviting community members to help shape the 2026–27 Budget by sharing their ideas for Council’s key focus areas, whether they be for new infrastructure projects, community initiatives, or reprioritising the way we fund day to day services.

From now until Thursday 11 December 2025, individuals, community groups, and organisations are encouraged to submit their proposals that will benefit the broader community.

This collaborative approach has already proven successful - in the previous budget cycle, several community-backed projects received funding thanks to early public input.

Mayor Dom Bonanno said early engagement with the community helps Councillors and Council staff make better-informed budget decisions.

“Community input is vital, whether through our annual grants program or the budget process,” he said.

“Starting the conversation early ensures that ideas from residents are considered alongside officer recommendations, giving our Councillors a strong foundation for decision-making.”

Engaging the community at the start of the budget process also allows Council to potentially be ready to act from 1 July 2026, ensuring community-backed projects take off quicker whilst maintaining essential services.

Council’s annual funding comes primarily from rates revenue and grants, supplemented by other regular fees and charges.

Those interested in submitting an idea can do so via Council’s Your Say engagement hub (yoursay.mrsc.vic.gov.au). Anyone needing guidance on preparing their submission can contact Customer Service to speak with Council officers and strengthen their proposal.

Submitters will have the opportunity to present their ideas at a Submitters Delegated Committee meeting in early 2026.

Submissions can be made online, posted to PO Box 151, Kyneton VIC 3444, or delivered in person at any of Council’s customer service centres.
