Delay in distribution of rates notices

Last updated on 11 September 2025

The delivery of Council’s 2025-26 rates notices has been delayed, however Council will ensure ratepayers are not disadvantaged as a result.

Batches of notices have commenced being posted this week, with the timing of electronic notices still being confirmed. Council will keep ratepayers informed of any updates, including confirmation once all rates notices have been issued.

This delay is due to changes in the layout of the notices following the introduction of the Victorian Government’s Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund Levy late in our process.

Council officers have sought to expedite designs and distribution with our external provider, but due to the unique requirements of rates notices, the detailed proofing process and high volume of redesign requests across multiple councils has created a backlog for the provider.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer Bernie O’Sullivan reassured residents that this unforeseen delay won’t create an additional financial burden on ratepayers.

“Council apologises for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause,” he said.

“Ratepayers will still have the full standard payment period for their first instalment, and no interest penalties will apply for late payments caused by this delay, where they are made during the usual payment period.”

“While the delay is not ideal and may impact individuals’ planning, Council officers will be available to support residents during this time, including assistance with payment plans or where there are financial hardship concerns."
