Shipping containers on private land

Under the Community Local Law 2023, regulations apply to the placement and use of shipping containers on private land in the shire to protect community safety, amenity, and the environment.

Other regulations also vary depending on your property’s zoning and overlays and how you intend to use the container, including:

  • Temporary or ongoing storage (personal or commercial)
  • Farm or machinery storage
  • Use as a habitable building or shed
  • Use on a building site

Time restrictions may apply and containers must not create safety hazards or negatively impact the area’s visual amenity.

Fees

  • Permit fee per container per 12 month period: $184

Shipping containers on Council land

Shipping containers placed on Council land will require an Asset Protection Permit.
