Hands-on interpretative displays will help you on your journey of discovery as you wander through and learn more about the history and geology of the Rock. Discover how and when the rocks were formed, and what did happen to the school girls who were the subject of the famous book and film.
There are numerous barbecues, picnic tables and shelters located throughout the reserve, or there's plenty of room to throw a rug on the lawns and enjoy a picnic.
If you’re taking your own barbecue, help keep Hanging Rock safe for the many native animals that live there by following any fire restrictions that may apply. During the fire restriction period, the ranger will be able to advise you on areas that you can use your gas barbecue.
Heat bead or solid fuel barbecues are prohibited at all times.

Why not have Hanging Rock as your backdrop.
If you’re bringing the kids, they can climb, swing and slide in the children’s playground. Please ensure that children are supervised at all times. Visitors are asked to practice good hand hygiene, maintain appropriate physical distancing and to not visit the reserve if they are unwell.
Hanging Rock has its very own 1,400m racecourse and has been the home of the Hanging Rock Racing Club for over 130 years.
The first official race meeting was held at Hanging Rock on New Years Day 1886, however thoroughbred racing has been taking place at the base of the Rock on an unofficial basis from at least the 1870s and probably earlier.
Racing at Hanging Rock is held twice a year, on New Years Day and Australia Day. See Events at Hanging Rock.
Numerous toilet blocks are located throughout the reserve. All are wheelchair (DDA) accessible, except for the block located on the east side of the Rock.
There are two toilets with nappy change facilities.
