Riddells Creek - Road and Pedestrian Safety Improvement Works

Road and pedestrian safety improvement works have now been completed in the Riddells Creek Town Centre, as part of Council’s 2024-25 Capital Works Program and aligning with the Riddells Creek Movement Network Plan.

The project targeting an area with significant pedestrian activity generated from the retail precinct and the train station was funded through a combination of the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Local Government Grant Program, the Victorian Government’s Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program and Council.

The works included:

  • the installation of two (2) raised safety platforms – otherwise known as wombat crossings – along Station Street and Sutherlands Road, providing safer pedestrian crossing points between Lions Park, the retail precinct and the southern side of Station Street
  • the installation of an additional raised safety platform across the road at the Station Street and Hamilton Road intersection
  • extension of the footpath on the southern side of Hamilton Street, from the new wombat crossing mentioned above to the existing bus stop outside Riddells Creek Station
  • new kerb alignment, line marking and signage at the Sutherlands Road and Station Road intersection to reverse the current give way arrangements, with vehicles on Sutherlands Road to have right of way and vehicles on Station Street needing to give way
  • lighting upgrade at the intersections of Station Street/Hamilton Street and Station Street/Sutherlands Road
  • landscaping of the area fronting the shops at the intersection of Sutherlands Road and Station Street

Works commenced late October 2024 and were completed by mid-August.

We would like to thank residents, businesses, commuters and road users for your understanding and patience as works were being completed.
