Litter and dumped rubbish

Littering and illegal rubbish dumping is costly, harmful to the environment and can put the community at risk.

People caught littering or dumping rubbish may receive fines or an environmental protection notice.

Most dumped rubbish can be taken to a resource recovery facility instead, often for free.

If you find dumped rubbish, do not touch or move it. It may contain hazardous materials or attract rodents and snakes. Report it so it can be safely assessed and removed.

Litter on building sites

Builders and owner-builders must take measures to ensure that litter, debris and other waste is contained on the building site to the satisfaction of Council.

Builders and landowners who do not effectively manage waste and litter on building sites may be fined. Council's Local Laws Officers work closely with the Environment Protection Authority's Officers to tackle building waste issues in the shire.

For more information, refer to section 31 and 32 of Council's Community Local Law 2023
