Kyneton - Campaspe River Walk footbridges

Council is proposing works to a number of redundant footbridges along Campaspe River Walk in Kyneton, which are beyond maintenance and have been closed since the October 2022 flood event.

With the new Kyneton Viewing Platform now installed near Mitchell Street, inspections along the River Walk identified 7 other assets requiring attention and future work, to ensure public safety and improve the usability/amenity of the area.

Proposed works:

  • 2 footbridges identified as redundant (no longer necessary) and proposed to be removed, with the land reinstated with topsoil and seed
  • 2 footbridges to be replaced with pipe culverts for drainage purposes, and a gravel path reinstated
  • 3 footbridges identified for future renewal/replacement works, subject to further funding and design work

Work on the 2 footbridges identified as redundant is to be completed in June 2025, weather permitting. There are not expected to be any impact to the public during this time.

Design and investigation work will continue around the 2 footbridges proposed to be replaced with pipe culverts, with planned delivery in the next financial year (2025-26). The remaining 3 footbridges identified for future renewal/replacement will be subject to funding for delivery in future years.
