Gisborne, Fisher & Aitken streets - Pedestrian safety improvement

The Victorian Government is investing $23 million as part of the Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program (SSIP), to improve safety at popular activity areas for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. These upgrades have been delivered by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government.

Pedestrian safety has been improved – particularly for nearby school students – by installing a wombat crossing and completing other associated works at the intersection of Fisher Street and Aitken Street in Gisborne.

The installation of the wombat crossing commenced on 2 December 2024 and was completed on 20 December 2024.

Lighting upgrades are scheduled to be carried out with the aim of completing the project by end of December 2025.
