Bright future for New Gisborne Tennis Club

Another significant lighting upgrade – this time at the New Gisborne Tennis Club – is now completed, expanding opportunities for night-time competition and casual hits.
Council’s Mayor Dom Bonanno, State Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas MP and user group representatives were among those at Ross Watt Reserve this evening to officially mark the project’s completion, made possible through $170,000 in funding from the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and a $121,000 contribution from Council.
With construction starting in November 2024 and finishing in April 2025, the project has delivered the installation of high-quality LED lights at Courts 1 and 2, providing brighter and safer conditions for everyone and supporting evening games, training, and ensuring more opportunities for community participation year-round.
Mayor Bonanno said the upgrades were another win for the local community, and a testament to what can be achieved when all levels of government work together to support grassroots sport.
“This is such a great outcome for New Gisborne and our broader tennis community. These new lights won’t just brighten up the courts, they light the way for more inclusive and accessible active communities,” he said.
“We know how important local sports clubs are to our community – whether you’re a seasoned player or picking up a racquet for the first time, having a safe and well-lit space to play makes a big difference, especially as winter draws nearer.”
Council extends its thanks to the Victorian Government for their investment in local sport and recreation, with this project completion complementing the similarly grant-supported completion of lighting upgrades at Riddells Creek Recreation Reserve.
