Animal impound fees

If an animal is handed in to Council, collected by a ranger or transported to the livestock pound, the owner is liable for impound, transport, microchipping and registration fees where applicable.

Impound fees for cats and dogs

Impounded cats and dogs are held in the Council holding facility for the first 24 hours post impoundment to allow both the Council and the owner to make contact to get the pet reunited as quickly as possible. (The exception being an animal impounded late Friday afternoon if the owner has not been found prior to 4pm as the holding facility is not monitored over the weekend and animals cannot be left unattended for the whole weekend).

If an animal is not registered and/or microchipped, it makes it hard for Council to find the official pet owner. This may result in the animal being transported to the Council pound contractor at the end of the 24 hour period. 

Any relevant impound fees must be paid before animals are released.

Cats and dogs must be microchipped in order to be released back to the owner. If not, Council will arrange microchipping and registration before release.
