Riddells Creek - Street Tree Planting Program

Riddells Creek Street Trees

Beginning in July 2023, more than 150 trees were planted in the streets of Riddells Creek.

Every year, Council undertakes street tree planting to improve the natural environment of the Macedon Ranges. This ensures that our community receives the benefits offered by trees such as shade, increased property values, improved noise and pollution absorption, improved mental health, and reduced rainfall runoff.

An audit identified suitable locations within Riddells Creek to plant trees. Suitable street trees are selected from Council’s preferred tree species list.

Trees are purchased from local nurseries and Council staff ensure the new plantings are well looked after, watered regularly during the warmer months for the first two years to ensure they mature into healthy and structurally sound trees. Most trees are then self-sufficient after two years. The stakes used in the planting program were up-cycled from trees felled by the June 2021 storm.

Works were completed on 4 September 2023.
