Mount Macedon - Clarke Street footbridge

In 2023, Council assessed an old timber footbridge located at Clarke Street, Mount Macedon over Melbourne Water's Willimigongon Creek as unsafe for pedestrian use due to structural concerns.

Initially barricades and additional warning signs were installed, but after the barricades continued to be removed, the footbridge was removed completely to ensure public safety while we explored options for repairs or replacement of the crossing.

Consent from Melbourne Water has been received for the bridge replacement. The tender was awarded late March and preliminary design of the bridge is underway.

The bridge replacement proposal impacts on the vegetation and an application for a Planning Permit has been submitted to Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) for the removal of native vegetation to allow for the bridge construction.

The bridge construction is expected to be completed by September 2025. These works are funded as part of Council’s 2024-25 Capital Works Program.

As an alternative route during this time, walk along Mount Macedon Road and Brougham Road. We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience, but we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of users above all else.
