Malmsbury, Ross Street - Bluestone Bridge

The bridge at Ross Street, Malmsbury is an early 1900s bluestone structure.

Following a structural and safety assessment of the bridge in 2022, the bridge was closed while a solution was looked into.

Council engineers worked closely with design consultants to examine feasible schematic design options, with a clear preference to meet both the resident’s desires to protect the heritage bluestone elements of the existing Ross Street bridge and the required current engineering standards.

Works commenced in November 2023 and contractors have now completed the important works to strengthen the historical bluestone bridge as well as improving safety for road users.

Works included new piles and headwalls, code-compliant barriers and a renewed surface.

Council would like to thank the local Malmsbury community for all their patience while these upgrades were completed.
