Media statement: draft Gisborne Futures Structure Plan

Last updated on 17 November 2023

Council would like to make a clarification in response to a recent media article relating to the draft Gisborne Futures Structure Plan, which has resulted in incorrect information being circulated.

Response attributable to Rebecca Stockfeld, Director Planning and Environment, Macedon Ranges Shire Council:

Council does not currently support the duplication of Station Road, consistent with a decision to rescind support for the design in 2017.

This is highlighted in the recent draft Gisborne Futures Structure Plan, which discusses the concept but notes that it would only temporarily improve traffic flow and recommends to prioritise walking, cycling and public transport upgrades over road widening or duplication.

Broadly, the draft plan aims to provide a blueprint for sustainable development of Gisborne and New Gisborne, balancing protection of the area’s environmental and rural qualities with the infrastructure and service needs of a growing community.

With the extended six-week consultation period on the draft plan now closed, Council officers will consider all feedback received and – alongside consulting on a revised neighbourhood character study and urban design framework next year – present recommendations at a future Council meeting.
