Free Green Waste Week in the Ranges

Last updated on 13 October 2025

Council is encouraging residents to get their properties ready for summer with a free green waste disposal week from Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November 2025.

Residents can drop off green waste at Council’s Resource recovery facilities in Kyneton, Romsey or Woodend. Only residential loads are accepted, and residents can visit as many times as needed. Free self-loaded mulch is also available to help with garden maintenance.

Mayor Dom Bonanno said ‘Preparing your property isn’t just about keeping your garden tidy; it’s a crucial part of reducing fire risk. Clearing green waste, long grass and debris from your property helps protect your home, your family and our community ahead of the fire season.’

‘Summer in the Macedon Ranges comes with the risk of fire. Taking small steps now, like using our green waste facilities, makes a big difference in keeping everyone safe,’ he added.

The free green waste week program provides an easy, safe way to remove excess vegetation and reduce potential fuel loads on properties. Additionally, residents can also use Council’s free green waste drop-off voucher, sent with the latest edition of ShireLife magazine, any time within the financial year.

Council encourages all residents to use this opportunity as part of broader bushfire preparation, which includes clearing gutters, trimming trees, removing woody weeds and creating or reviewing your Fire Plan.
