Draft Community Local Law 2023

Submissions closed on 30 April 2023, 05:00 PM

Council’s current General Purposes and Amenity Local Law No.10 of 2013 is due to expire in September 2023.

Council has a legislative obligation to review and prepare a new Local Law every ten years. This ensures the law remains valid and suited to the needs of our community.

We conducted a review of Local Law No.10 of 2013 during late 2022 – early 2023, liaising with key internal and external stakeholders about how we can continue to respond to local issues, protect public and private space, and ensure safety and amenity, all while keeping in mind current and emerging issues.

Following this review, a proposed new local law, the Draft Community Local Law 2023, was developed, for which Council sought community feedback during March – April 2023.

Submissions closed on 30 April 2023.

A total of 199 participants took part in the consultation phase of this project. Thank you to everyone who participated.

The feedback Council received has been used to create the final Community Local Law 2023.

The final Community Local Law 2023 was presented at the Council meeting on Wednesday 23 August 2023, with the recommendation that it be adopted by Council.

You can download the meeting agenda, including associated documents and meeting minutes here.

The new Community Local Law 2023 will be implemented following the sunset of Council’s current General Purposes and Amenity Local Law of 2013 on 25 September 2023.
