The Victorian Government is investing $23 million as part of the Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program (SSIP), to improve safety for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. These upgrades are being delivered by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government as we continue to work to deliver safer, connected journeys in Victoria.
Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a collision, making them one of our most vulnerable road users. Infrastructure plays a vital role in preventing serious crashes, while also helping to reduce the severity of crashes when they’re unavoidable.
Pedestrian safety has been improved – particularly for nearby school students – with the installation of a raised safety crossing and associated footpath works were also completed at the intersection of New Street and High Street in Kyneton.
Construction commenced on 6 November and was completed on 4 December 2025.
We would like to thank residents, businesses, and road users for their patience as works were being completed.
