Kyneton, New Street - Pedestrian safety improvements
The Victorian Government is investing $23 million as part of the Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program (SSIP), to improve safety at popular activity areas for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. These upgrades are being delivered by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government as we continue to work to deliver safer, connected journeys in Victoria.
Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a collision, making them one of our most vulnerable road users. Infrastructure plays a vital role in preventing serious crashes, while also helping to reduce the severity of crashes when they’re unavoidable.
Pedestrian safety will be improved – particularly for nearby school students – by installing a wombat crossing and completing other associated works at the intersection of New Street and High Street in Kyneton.
21 November 2025 update:
Works began on 6 November and while there was originally a target completion date of 20 November, weather permitting, an unforeseen issue has led to a minor delay, with the completion date now expected to be 26 November. We thank residents for their patience as these works are being carried out.
Road closures and detours are in place on New Street and the surrounding streets to complete these works safely and efficiently. Drivers should plan for minor delays due to the detours.
