Flood/storm watch - January 2024

Last updated on 08 January 2024

Council has received a number of reports of localised flooding or storm impacts, following heavy rain.

Council staff are working closely with emergency services to gather information and address urgent matters related to Council-managed infrastructure, including roads and drains.  We've also reached out to the State Emergency Service (SES) on potential proactive measures, such as sandbags, which they are generally responsible for.

The SES is the emergency services organisation which coordinates sandbag collection points when required to assist in preparing at-risk townships. At other times, the community may be able to access sandbags from their local hardware store (info via the SES website).

Emergency services remain your first point of call for any urgent matters, including monitoring status updates. Notifying Council of any impacts at the same time will also help us to get a better picture and address them in a timely manner where necessary.

Stay alert, not alarmed, and use the following in relation to impacts:

  • If you are in immediate danger: Call 000 (triple zero).
  • Flood/storm assistance (inc. private property damage): Call 132 500 (SES).
    • You can also forward on information relating to property damage to Council, to help us gather information on localised impacts - visit this page for information on how to fill out a form, call 5422 0333 or email mrsc@mrsc.vic.gov.au
  • Flood/storm impacts to roads/drains/other public infrastructure:
    • Visit VicTraffic for road closures and traffic alerts.
    • Slow down, drive to the conditions and never drive through floodwaters.
    • To report an urgent hazard or a road/traffic enquiry contact VicRoads on 13 11 70, 24 hours, 7 days a week.
    • To report infrastructure-related damage to Council, call 5422 0333 or report an issue online.
  • Weather updates: Monitor the Bureau of Meteorology website.
  • Emergency alerts: Monitor the VicEmergency website or download the VicEmergency app.
