Council is inviting public feedback to help shape the future of Stanley Park in Mount Macedon, including its ongoing management and infrastructure needs.

Located just off Mount Macedon Road at 15 Salisbury Road, the six-hectare forest, grassland and passive recreation park has been used by residents and visitors for walking, picnicking and nature study for more than a century.

It is co-managed by Council, responsible for maintaining most of the park’s physical assets, and a Community Asset Committee (CAC), responsible for maintaining garden beds, bushland areas and litter removal.

In this first of a two-stage consultation process, Council has drafted an updated Environmental Management Plan in collaboration with the CAC, drawing from ecological assessments and CAC insights.

Council’s Acting Director Planning and Environment, Rob Ball, encouraged residents to read through the proposed plan and contribute their thoughts for consideration.

“This initial stage provides the community with an opportunity to share what they love about Stanley Park, and how they spend their time there,” he said.

“This will provide guidance for both Council and the CAC on community values regarding this much-loved reserve.”

The bushland and grassland areas of Stanley Park have been the focus of weed management and revegetation projects for decades. Community volunteers have contributed significantly to the flora and fauna values present at Stanley Park today.

The plan provides updated information on the conservation values of Stanley Park, such as the observation of a pair of threatened gang-gang cockatoos inspecting a nest hollow.

Based on the finalised Environmental Management Plan, Council will develop a draft Infrastructure Master Plan to guide future management of the park and consult again in a second stage, inviting public feedback again later in the 2023/24 financial year.

The draft Environmental Management Plan will be available for public comment from 18 July to 15 August via the Have Your Say section.
