Celebrate International Women’s Day in the Macedon Ranges

Last updated on 17 February 2026

Council invites the community to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, with two inspiring events that highlight the extraordinary achievements and voices of women.

In 2026, the theme for International Women’s Day is #BalanceTheScales – a promise that every woman and girl should be safe, heard, and free to shape her own future. Yet millions of women and girls across Australia are still denied this fair go, facing legal and economic disadvantages, harmful practices, gender-based violence, and structural barriers that continue to block access to justice. These obstacles are not inevitable – they are built, and they can be dismantled.

This year, Council will host two unique events that explore the theme of International Women’s Day in different ways: a powerful theatrical performance, The Deplorables, and an engaging author panel event featuring celebrated writer Kaz Cooke.

The Deplorables is a joyous, uplifting, and fabulously musical theatrical journey that tells the story of two women’s teams playing cricket for the very first time in Australia. Tickets have almost sold out, so if you’re lucky to grab one of the last remaining tickets, come and join us to celebrate this momentous story and its significance for women today at Kyneton Town Hall on Saturday 28 February from 7:30pm.

The celebrations continue with “Brave, Bonkers, and Brilliant – In Conversation with Kaz Cooke” on Friday 13 March at 7pm at Kyneton Town Hall. Beloved author Kaz Cooke will share her insights on cutting through the clutter of online advice, wellness fads, social media pressure, and everyday life challenges.

From teenagers to career women, parents to those navigating menopause, this engaging conversation promises laughter, wisdom, and practical tips. Kaz will be in conversation with creative strategist Anyez Lindop, and will also be available to sign books following the event.

Mayor Kate Kendall said: “International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women in every field. These events highlight not only the inspiring voices shaping our now but also showcase the incredible talent we attract to our creative venues.”

Community members are encouraged to join in and celebrate the achievements, stories, and voices of women across history and today.
