Kyneton Drill Hall

Council has noted the proposed sale of the Kyneton Drill Hall by the Australian Government's Department of Defence, and is advocating for heritage values of the site to be retained.

In the Urgent Business section of the June 2026 Council Meeting, the following motion was carried, that Council:

  1. Notes that the Department of Defence is divesting the Kyneton Training Depot (also known as the Kyneton Drill Hall), located at 10 Market Street Kyneton, VIC 3444, and that consultation is now open on the future use of the site.
  2. Requests the CEO to prepare a submission to the Department of Defence, outlining the heritage value of the site and the desire that the heritage building be retained, and places this submission on the Council website.
  3. That Council provide a copy of the submission to the Federal Minister for Defence, the Hon Richard Marles MP, the Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP, the State Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas MP, the Returned & Services League (RSL) Victoria and the National Trust.
  4. Notes that the Kyneton Training Depot is not listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List.
  5. Notes that the Kyneton Training Depot is designated under the Mollison Street Precinct in the Macedon Ranges Planning Scheme and is protected by the Heritage Overlay (HO162).
