A Life, Carved, Beaten, Forged

An exhibition

Peter Butterworth is a highly experienced sculptor with over 54 years of experience, known for creating mixed media works that blend natural materials with industrial elements. His work is characterized by a "deep love for nature" and a "rigorous, research-driven approach," often incorporating a combination of carving, welding, and found objects.

Butterworth frequently carves wood (including Redgum) and stone to create organic, figurative, or abstract forms. A major component of his work involves metal fabrication, specifically forging and welding steel and, at times, using aluminium or copper. He combines disparate materials into cohesive pieces, such as using carved wood with steel rods, aluminium, or stone. He incorporates techniques like turning wood and beating metal

He frequently utilizes found items, which combines carved wood and stone, utilizes cast Hydrocal combined with welded steel and shellac.
