The Circular Economy
A circular economy is about reducing waste from the start by keeping resources, products and materials in use for longer (through reuse, repair, repurposing, recycling and recovery) rather than following the traditional take-make-throw-away model.
Council operates resource recovery facilities throughout the shire have been working hard to adopt methods that help our shire move away from the traditional "use-and-discard” model and instead treat waste as a valuable resource that can drive innovation and reduce environmental impact.
Many businesses in the Macedon Ranges are also finding innovative and exciting ways to effectively engage in circular economy practice.
Recently a series of 10 Circular Economy Case Studies(PDF, 13MB) was commissioned as a joint project by Macedon Ranges and Hepburn Shire councils, highlighting the innovative and exciting ideas that both Council and local businesses are engaging in to drive the circular economy in our region.
