Plant and animal biosecurity

Biosecurity is vital to safeguard agriculture, human health, and ecosystems by preventing the spread of diseases, pests, and invasive species.

Exotic pests and diseases can threaten the agricultural sector and animal industries.

It's important we all know how to identify potential risks early and strengthen our knowledge around biosecurity.

Biosecurity and plant diseases

Use Agriculture Victoria's guide to help you recognise and manage some of the many diseases of grains, fruits, vegetables, flowers and other plants.

Report any unusual plant pest or disease immediately using Agriculture Victoria's online reporting system. Early reporting increases the chance of effective control and eradication.

Please take good quality photos of the pests or damage to include in your report where possible.

Alternatively, you can call the Exotic plant pest hotline on 1800 084 881.

Biosecurity animal diseases

Diseases are a threat to livestock.

Learn about identifying and managing diseases in livestock and animals via the Agriculture Victoria website.
