Kyneton - Toilet closure, Duck Duck Goose

Page update: 19 September 2025

Council acknowledges the disappointment caused by the recent decision to close the public toilets located at the currently closed business, Duck Duck Goose and Larder, on the corner of Piper and Ebden streets in Kyneton.

Council does not own this facility, and has had a long-standing lease agreement with the landowner to manage and maintain the toilets on this site – a clause negotiated when Council sold the property in December 2006.

However, with the lease fee cost to Council proposed to significantly increase, it means that Council continuing to lease the toilets was no longer sustainable.

This difficult decision was made with careful consideration and in the best interests of the community. It reflects the need to balance the financial responsibility of managing expenditure, with the goal of providing high-quality public facilities for residents and visitors to the precinct.

Council has decided to close the Duck Duck Goose facility and is prioritising delivery of a $270,000 upgrade to the Hutton Street public toilets (included in Council’s Budget 2025-26), located just 400 metres from the closed site.

This approach aligns with Council’s Public Toilet and Barbecue Strategy, which highlights the availability of several alternative public toilet facilities in good condition – such as those on Hutton Street and also at the Kyneton Showgrounds – all within a five-minute walk (500 metres) of the closed site.

We welcome community feedback on the closure or the Hutton Street upgrade via email at mrsc@mrsc.vic.gov.au

Alternative available public toilets can be found via Council’s website, but include:

  • Hutton Street (at the back of Council’s Kyneton Administration Centre)
  • Mollison Street (Kyneton Showgrounds)
