Council has welcomed Labor's election commitment to invest $9 million to upgrade the Urquhart and High Street intersection in Woodend, a project identified in the Council’s advocacy prospectus.

The commitment was announced on Tuesday by the Labor candidate, Annette Death, alongside the Victorian State Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Michaela Settle.

Mayor Cassy Borthwick said the proposed investment supports ongoing Council and community advocacy and addresses ongoing safety and connectivity concerns.

“This is an important intersection not only for Woodend but the broader shire, and we welcome commitments that increase safety and access for people moving through Woodend,” Cr Borthwick said.

“This project remains a high priority for our community and Council seeks commitments from all candidates that will help secure funding and deliver this long-awaited intersection upgrade.”

“It’s important to acknowledge the residents and community groups who have continued to raise these concerns and advocate for improvements.”

“We want an outcome that improves safety, supports better connections across Woodend and meets the needs of residents, businesses and visitors,” Cr Borthwick said.
