The Victorian Government is investing $23 million as part of the Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program (SSIP), to improve safety at popular activity areas for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. These upgrades are being delivered by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government as we continue to work to deliver safer, connected journeys in Victoria.
Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a collision, making them one of our most vulnerable road users. Infrastructure plays a vital role in preventing serious crashes, while also helping to reduce the severity of crashes when they’re unavoidable.
Pedestrian safety is proposed to be improved by installing a wombat crossing and completing other associated works at the intersection of Jennings Street and Mollison Street in Kyneton, which sees heavy pedestrian traffic as a main thoroughfare to nearby shops.
The project is currently in the design stage and construction dates will be published once the works are awarded.
