Gisborne - Willow Estate Wetland – temporary fencing and access update

The temporary fencing around the wetland areas at Willow Estate has now been removed, and the shared paths are open for public use.

To support the establishment of grassed areas, stakes and parawebbing will remain in place temporarily. Additionally, wire rabbit-proof fencing will stay around the planting zones near the waterway for approximately 18 months to protect new vegetation. These fenced areas are not open to the public. We kindly ask visitors to stay on designated paths and avoid entering the fenced planting and grassed areas.

While the wetland area is still undergoing its establishment phase and public access remains limited, there are several nearby parks within walking distance for recreation:

  • Maloney Road Park: features play equipment, BBQs and picnic shelter, table tennis, and a half basketball court
  • Gisborne Fields (Coop Drive): offers a playground, BBQ and picnic shelter, and a dog off-leash area.

Please note: this wetland is a Melbourne Water project designed to improve water quality treatment and provide habitat. It is not a Council-managed park. Melbourne Water is responsible for the design, planting and establishment, while Council will maintain only the shared paths and grassed areas.

We appreciate the community's patience as this important environmental project continues to establish.
