Barrm Birrm Nature Reserve

An open forest on the side of the hill visible from, and overlooking, Riddells Creek. It has a vast diversity of groundcover plants. An accessible area of 120ha, including 15km of walking tracks, is known locally as the Shone & Scholz Land. 'Barrm' means the 'root of the Yam Daisy' and 'Birrm' means 'many of', the roots of which were a staple food of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung (the traditional custodians).

Most of Barrm Birrm is privately owned. Walkers are asked to stick to existing tracks. Vehicle access is restricted to land managers and emergency vehicles.

Barrm Birrm is located at the corner of Gap Road and Royal Parade, Riddells Creek, and is next to the Riddells Creek Cemetery.
