International Day of People with Disability
Everyone is invited to celebrate and recognise International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) on 3 December each year.
IDPwD is a United Nations observed day celebrated each year to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people living with a disability and to celebrate their achievements and contributions.
We all have a role to play to make our workplaces and community more accessible and inclusive for the 4.4 million Australians with disability, both visible and invisible.

Showcasing Inclusion Photo Competition 2023
By sharing and celebrating the lives and achievements of people with disability, we can remind ourselves what genuine inclusion looks like. That's why, as part of our International Day of People with Disability 2023, Council invited our community to participate in a photograph competition about showcasing inclusion.
Judges from the community reviewed all entries on the basis of how well the photo portrayed inclusion and how appealing in terms of composition, lighting and background.
A presentation event for the competition was held in Kyneton Mechanics Institute on Wednesday 29 November 2023 with the pleased award-winners receiving their framed photos, a certificate with feedback from the judges and a gift certificate.

Recognising inclusive groups 2023
Another IDPwD 2023 initiative by Council recognises some local groups and teams who are offering an inclusive program or approach. Groups that responded to a query about inclusive activities will receive a small amount of funding to purchase equipment or resources, to access disability awareness training for leaders or to promote their inclusive activities early in the new year. Each agency will be profiled in Council social media in the first months of 2024, describing their inclusion focus and how they used this funding.
