Heritage Study - Gisborne and Kyneton

Background

The Gisborne and Kyneton Heritage Study was adopted by Council on 20 December 2017 and forms part of the implementation of the Macedon Ranges Heritage Strategy 2014-2018.

The final report of the Heritage Study includes citations for 37 heritage places in Gisborne, New Gisborne and Kyneton. Each citation includes photographs and a written description capturing the place’s history and what makes it significant in heritage terms.

The study recommends that the Heritage Overlay be applied to each site to provide heritage protection under the Macedon Ranges Planning Scheme.

Implementation: Planning Scheme Amendment C118

Implementation of the Heritage Study(PDF, 8MB) is currently underway via Amendment C118 to the Planning Scheme. The amendment applies the Heritage Overlay to each site, and applies design guidelines to ensure that the site’s heritage values are sensitively maintained in any future work on the site such as renovation, extension or subdivision.

The amendment was exhibited from March to May 2018. The submissions received were referred to an Independent Planning Panel for consideration. The panel hearing was held in September 2018, with the Panel ultimately supporting the amendment with some recommended changes.

Council resolved on 19 December 2018 to adopt C118 with the Panel’s recommended changes. The amendment has been submitted for approval, and is being assessed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) prior to Ministerial approval.

All of the relevant documentation including the Panel report and amendment documents can be accessed via the DELWP website.
