Barkly Square sports field reconstruction

  • Project value$1,260,000.00 (rounded)
  • Project scheduleCompleted
  • Completion Date29 September 2023

Barkly Square is an important venue in the suite of available sporting facilities in Kyneton, being the home ground of the Kyneton District Soccer Club, and home to the Kyneton Dog Obedience Club. The Kyneton Small Bore Rifle Club are also located within the precinct.

The previous Barkly Square playing surface was plagued by poor drainage and an uneven soil profile, which over the last five or more years has resulted in the surface becoming water logged and unplayable, with a significant number of soccer games having to be relocated.

Reconstruction of the sports field playing surface has ensured the appropriate infrastructure and a fit-for-purpose playing surface is provided, enabling greater opportunities for participation.

What was delivered

The Barkly Square sports field reconstruction included:

  • stripping, cultivating and re-grading of the existing playing surface
  • removal of the existing turf wicket table
  • installation of a new sub-surface irrigation system
  • installation of a new sub-surface drainage system
  • installation of new sporting infrastructure for soccer and cricket
  • resurfacing the playing field with warm season grass.

Project update

The project was completed and formally recognised at an event on Friday 24 November 2023.
