Gardiner Reserve precinct upgrades

$2.365m worth of facility upgrades have recently been completes at Gardiner Reserve in Gisborne, including:

  • a second netball court, with sports lighting
  • new female friendly, modular change rooms for netball and umpires
  • new female friendly, modular change rooms for football and cricket
  • sports oval LED lighting upgrade

The projects are being developed by Council, in partnership with the Victorian Government, AFL Victoria and the Gisborne Football Netball Club.

Second netball court

Project value  $207,000

The new netball court is located next to the existing netball court, finished with a synpave surface, lit with LED lights and includes perimeter fencing and drainage.  

This project was funded through part of a $500,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Female Friendly Facilities Fund ($70,000) and a $137,000 contribution from the Gisborne Football Netball Club ($50,000 cash, $87,000 in-kind).

Netball and umpires' change rooms

The new modular change rooms for netball and umpires replaced the former storage shelter shed on the western side of the existing netball court.

New facilities include female friendly, home and away change rooms, football and netball umpire amenities, ambulant amenities, first aid room and storage, meeting/duty area and veranda to provide shelter.

This project was funded by part of a $500,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Female Friendly Facilities Fund ($430,000) and a $496,001 budget allocation from Council.

Football and cricket change rooms

The new football and cricket modular change rooms replace the existing change pavilion on the western side of the oval.

New facilities include female friendly, home and away change rooms, first aid room, accessible toilet and storage.

This project was funded through a $100,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and a $991,848 budget allocation from Council.

Sports oval LED lighting

Project value  $140,000 
Project schedule Complete

The sports oval lighting upgrade project involved the removal of existing metal halide light fittings and replacement with LED lights to 150 lux.

This project was funded through a $55,000 grant from AFL Victoria, and an $85,000 budget allocation from Council.
