Learn to swim

Learn to Swim classes are available for all ages and abilities: infants, preschoolers, primary school, teenagers, squad swimming, adults.

Ages 6 to 36 months

Infant: (Wonder 1–3)

A water familiarisation program for infants aged between six and 36 months.

Parents or carers join their child in this class to support the learning process and enhance water safety, confidence and water familiarisation.

Aquatic awareness and survival skills are essential for all children. You and your child will be introduced to the water in a playful and secure environment.

Infants will learn through fun activities, songs and water play:

  • breath control through techniques such as blowing bubbles
  • floating, paddling and propulsion through the water
  • water familiarisation and confidence.

Ages 3 to 5 years

Preschool: (P01-P03)

As independence and confidence grows, your child will participate in these classes without you. The maximum number of students per class is four. Courage is the water confidence component of the Swim and Survive program. Courage is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety, as is a positive attitude towards learning these essential skills. Swim and Survive Courage guides children through fun and safe activities, gradually building on their breathing, floating and movement skills—supporting and encouraging independence.

Ages 5 to 14 years

Primary: (01–07)

With an increase in confidence, competence and endurance, children aged 5–14 years develop a lifelong appreciation for swimming and water safety.

The maximum number of students per class is five.

Teachers assess and progress children through the program based on their individual ability. Active level is used to emphasise that the skills learnt in the program not only save lives, but provide a foundation for participation in a range of aquatic recreation, fitness and sporting activities. Swim and Survive Active is a broad and balanced program teaching a range of skills and knowledge to develop:

  • swimming technique
  • water safety
  • survival and basic rescue skills.

With an increased focus on stroke development, the active level encourages children to have a healthy respect for the aquatic environment.

Pre-squad and junior squad

Pre-squad (08) and junior squad (09)

Squad swimming is not just about swimming laps. It's about a complete training program to help develop strong and capable swimmers. This program is designed to enhance stamina and endurance in the water, to continue the development of stroke efficiency and to expand on existing swimming skills.
