Overview

Everyone can contribute to maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of the Macedon Ranges. Your community or sporting group, business or school can join in the effort to ensure our streets, parks and nature strips are safe and tidy, and looking good too!

Trees—streets, parks and nature strips

Council provide services to assist with:

  • tree planting
  • tree care
  • tree lighting.

Street furniture

Other features that add to our streetscapes are:

  • Fountains (ornamental and drinking)
  • Seating and tables
  • Bollards
  • Planter boxes

Garden beds

During the year, Council’s Parks and Gardens team build and recreate garden beds within the shire to add to the beauty of our region, such as:

  • Roundabouts
  • Median strips
  • Annual beds
  • Feature plantings

Litter

Street and event bins

We provide street bin services to the main streets, parks and reserves to assist in the prevention of littering in our streets and parks. Event bins are offered to community groups and organisations running community events such as street festivals, markets and major sporting events.

Garden beds

Our staff are regularly tidying and cleaning up garden beds in the townships. Please contact us if you see something that needs tidying up.

Streets and roadsides

We have a programmed maintenance schedule for the sweeping of streets within the townships.

On occasion rubbish and other items are dumped by litterers on roadsides, roads and within Council reserves. The dumping of rubbish is an offence and our Local Laws team and Operations crew work hard to maintain the cleanliness of the shire. See: Report illegal dumping.

Waterways

Many of the waterways within the shire are maintained by water authorities. To work out which authority your area comes under, see: Water in your region
