Future Farming in the Macedon Ranges

Wednesday, 01 August 2018 | 06:30 PM to 09:00 PM

Farmer with tractor on field

Council along with the Macedon Ranges Agribusiness Forum is hosting a dinner with guest speakers to discuss future farming in the shire.

Why not come along and meet with other agricultural businesses in the region whilst discussing opportunities and issues for the industry with forum members.

Over dinner two guest speakers will be giving a presentation on drone technology and climate predictions for the future and how this will impact our region in the long term.

Jerry Grayson from Helifilms will be discussing drone technology and how this will assist farmers with the day to day practices of stock control, ground and water properties. Jerry has carved out a career becoming one of the top 5 helicopter pilots in the world, and the world's leading aerial film director. Jerry is now teaching farmers how to fly their DIY drones, and are carrying out high-end full farm surveys using this new technology.

Professor Robert Faggian from Deakin University will walk you through the future climate predictions for our state and how considerations will need to be made to ensure sustainable farming into 2030. Deakin University have undertaken climate change mapping in the Greater Hamilton region and for the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.

This event is a strategic action from the Macedon Ranges Agribusiness Plan 2013–18.
