Too Many Mirandas
The first ever dance flash mob at Hanging Rock has been unleashed!
As a celebration of the 50 year anniversary of Joan Lindsay's book 'Picnic at Hanging Rock', a classic tale about vanishing school girls at Hanging Rock, the Too Many Mirandas project was developed as an all-inclusive community dance event. Inviting people of all ages and gender to come along to Hanging Rock, to participate in a dance flash mob, dressed as the book's main character Miranda.
The event was all about having fun, celebrating dance, movement and our unique Australian environment.
With dance moves created to a musical score that had been developed specifically for the Too Many Mirandas project, artists Asking for Trouble conducted school and public workshops in the lead-up to the main event. Hundreds of people turned out on the day to Unleash their inner Miranda and this short film of the event was created.
Macedon Ranges Shire Council acknowledges that this event took place across Dja Dja Wurrung, Taunguraung and Wurundjery Country whose ancestors and their descendants are the traditional owners of this Country.
We acknowledge their living culture and their unique role in the life of this region.
This project was supported by a grant from Creative Victoria’s Regional Partnerships Program.
