| Welcome to Macedon Ranges Shire Council's website. The website has hundreds of pages of information that will answer a range of questions such as what time is the waste transfer station open? and how much will it cost to register my cat?.
The site is designed with the home user in mind and graphics have been kept to a minimum to aid speed. The website is best viewed at 800 x 600 pixels with Internet Explorer 5.
Some of the features of the site are listed below:-
Directory The website includes a link to Council's comprehensive CAL (Community, Arts and Leisure) directory, which lists over 1000 groups and organisations throughout the Shire. Groups also have the ability to add/update their content online which will assist in keeping our databases up to date. At the moment many listings aren't complete - if you are involved in an organisation, please help us by ensuring the relevant details have been updated/added.
No part of this directory may be reproduced, published or adapted for any commercial purpose.
An Events Directory is also available online, which provides community groups in the Macedon Ranges with free advertising of their events.
Site Navigation The design of the site is intended to provide easy access to the information that you require.
An A-Z index and search option has also been included for people who like to navigate a site in this way. The search facility allows for a simple search of all text within the site. If you would like a more detailed search of the website including all PDF documents, simply tick for a "detailed search". The site index has every page listed in alphabetical order for users who might like to use this method of navigation.
Printer Friendly A printer friendly button is available on each page of the website. Use this when you need to print a page without the graphics and website template.
Employment and Tenders Tenders are also available online. In order to download the documents (in PDF format) you will be required to provide your details via an online form. We believe this to be necessary to ensure that all Tenderers can be notified if addendums are issued. Also, there may be instances where hard copies of information will also need to be posted to you (such as plans, etc.) These will be forwarded to you on the next business day after downloading the document. Of course, Tenderers can still request tenders documents by phoning (03) 5422 0393.
Employment positions are also available online and applications may be submitted online.
Accessibility - W3C Compliant Macedon Ranges Shire Council aims to cater for all people in our community, and to minimise the effects of the ‘digital divide’ by ensuring that all have equal access to online information and services.
This means ensuring that online information is available to all people, regardless of any physical impairment/disability or the speed of their internet connection.
In keeping with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Council aims to provide online information and services that are accessible by people with any physical impairment or disability.
The site has been tested for W3C compliance and has been found to be W3C - Level A compliant, with many AA features. Further information regarding W3C can be found at the W3C Consortium website
Development of the website The development of this website in 2002 was a joint project between the Municipal Association of Victoria, AusSoft Solutions and Macedon Ranges Shire Council as part of the State Government Online Service Delivery Project. Macedon Ranges Shire Council was one of five municipalities in the State to be invited to participate in the project. Each municipality received funding to work with a specialist software designer to develop a web site that would provide the local community with state-of-the-art online access to Council services.
Powered By The website is powered by AusSoft Solution's WebComm system. It is a content management system based on a distributed authoring set-up. This simply means that staff across the organisation can author, approve and publish relevant pages without technical HTML experience, helping to ensure that the site is kept up to date.
PDF Downloads We have used Adobe Acrobat for our PDF's and you can download Adobe Reader from this page.
Photographs We would like to take this opportunity to thank local photographers, Marg Thornell and Janet Hawkins - for the use of several images in the content of this website.
Feedback We'd appreciate any feedback you may have about the website. A feedback form is available via the feedback link in the header at the top of this page. | |
