Dog poo

Dog poo is offensive to others walking and enjoying our public, open spaces; and it can cause health issues, such as spreading disease and infections to other dogs. It is also an offence not to clean up after your dog and fines apply.

Council’s Community Local Law 2023 requires that a person in charge of a dog in a public place must:

a) carry a sufficient and suitable device for the collection of any excrement from that animal;

b) produce the suitable device when requested to do so by an Authorised Officer;

c) immediately collect and dispose of the excrement in a proper and sanitary manner;

d) comply with a verbal direction given by an Authorised Officer to collect and dispose of the excrement in a proper and sanitary manner; and

e) ensure that the animal does not defecate on land unless permitted by the owner of that land.

If you see someone that fails to clean up after their dog, you can report it to Council. Officers may be able to investigate where a dog owner can be identified, so please be prepared to provide this information if you report it.
